Respect in the School Environment

Project

In the Respect in the Classroom simulation, participants assume the role of a teacher and navigate a school environment, facing real-world challenges and making decisions that lead to various consequences.

This simulation encourages participants to use moral reasoning and demonstrate respect in their decision-making, observing the impact on themselves and others. These experiences offer a safe environment for learners to engage, reflect, and develop practical wisdom. Participants will face decision-making scenarios where each choice influences future actions, highlighting the complexities and pressures of their decisions.

Process

We address the project in phases, culminating with milestones, and organized feedback rounds for each milestone. We built an interactive document that serves as our Master Project Plan. Within it, interactive map links connect to our comprehensive storyboard, divided into scenes. Each contains a mind map for the scene with clickable links to individual pages that contain storyboards, scene descriptions, camera direction, dialog, and video links. They are live documents reinforced with additional information throughout the course of our Development Path below.

Development Path

Challenges

With many moving parts to this project, a central hub was needed to share the overall plan, status, milestones, feedback, and deliverables to maintain the production schedule.  It needed to be interactive and a living, collaborative document so that it could be amended in-process and remain instantly accessible.

Solutions

I collaborated with the client to schedule a production plan and subsequently built and connected other pages.  The interactive map was coded for each scene using mermaid coding language and established connection elements according to the production plan.  While feedback is contained within individual elements that are linked on the Project Home page, the nature of this iterative process dictates summarized results and next steps are featured prominently for easy access while previous versions were archived, but still available.

Tools

Notion, DaVinci Resolve, F-Track, Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer, Adobe Creative Cloud, Eko Studio, H5p, Activepresenter 9, Shutter Encoder, Handbrake.

Development Milestones

Feedback and interation occurs via time-stamped comments in a password-protected web-based evaluation application.

Milestone 1

Master Plan

Evaluate the overall plan, schedule, and text-based version of the simulation. Stakeholder signoff on finalized development details.

Milestone 2

Production

Evaluate finished videos and graphics through Interactive Scene Map. Stakeholder signoff on all production elements.

Milestone 3

Prototype

P1 - Evaluate the simulation storytelling and implemented videos, music, and sfx.
P2 - Evaluate UI, buttons, and interactivity.

Milestone 4

Product Delivery

Evaluate assembly, accessibility, and analytics implementation. Final internal testing, external evaluation, and delivery occur according to Master Plan.

Measurables

Every interaction with the simulation can be catalogued through xAPI, SCORM, or as a Google Analytics Event.  This gives a flexibility in deployment without inhibiting the ability to make data driven adjustments as participation grows.

Client Feedback

Brandon listens to the client and follows up with the right questions to ensure the project vision is understood allowed our vision to come to life through an immersive simulation. His spirit of collaboration and ability to put people at ease throughout the design mapping and video production process made the experience fun and seamless. His professionalism and demonstrated expertise in using a diverse selection of software programs, equipment and web based applications ensured alignment between tool, process, and vision to bring the simulation to life. Brandon is committed to project timelines and flawless execution of thoughtful strategy to produce a quality product. As one of the best and most talented artists in the profession, his mastery of technology to bring a concept to life was crucial to accomplishing the vision. Brandon’s professional demeanor and collaborative nature coupled with his intuition, competence and artistic skill resulted in project rollout right on time.
